Position: Specialist: Risk & Insurance

Job Objectives/Key Responsibilities

Core purpose of the role

The Group Head: Risk & Insurance role interfaces with various stakeholders within the organisation, including members of the Group Exco, Divisional CEOs and their respective Exco members as well as Non-Executive Directors and their respective subcommittees. The role also interfaces with various excretal stakeholders including but not limited to: Insurance Brokers, Global Insurance Markets, Captive License Providers, Statutory bodies such as IISA, IRMSA, SAIA and ASSA.

The department is looking for a Specialist Contractor to work within the risk and insurance function to assist oversee the organisations comprehensive risk and insurance framework and programme, assessing and identifying risks that could impede the reputation, safety, security or financial success of Barloworld with the following key deliverables and outputs:

  • Assist with preparation for the quarterly Divisional risk committee meetings.
  • Assist with preparation for the quarterly Group risk committee meetings.
  • Support the Divisional Risk Champions
  • Assist Group Head: Risk & Insurance with all ERM requirements.
  • Track key strategic project costs
  • Maintain administrative universe for Strategy, M&A function including critical data; supplier contracts and invoices; payment schedule
  • Support Barloworld strategy deployment and governance processes
  • Liaise with key suppliers within Strategy, M&A function
  • Support daily administrative tasks
  • Perform Due Diligence report for vetting of new suppliers
  • Assist with departmental queries
  • Perform ad-hoc functions and any other activities as requested by manager
  • Support Budget and Forecasting Process
  • Perform month-end processing and monthly divisional and departmental cost allocations
  • Perform monthly variance analysis
  • Load purchase requisitions and orders on Sage X3 system
  • Load invoices on Laserfiche system
  • Facilitate monthly payment process (recurring and ad hoc)
  • Respond to role specific departmental queries

Internal customers

  • All the Divisions of Barloworld including stakeholders at Head Office

External customers

  • Short Term and Long Term Insurance Companies, IISA, IRMSA, Insurance Brokers, Insurance Markets, Captive License Providers

Overview: Essential individual competencies to be successful in the job

Academic qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in insurance & risk management or equivalent
  • Continued personal development.
  • Member of IRMSA
  • Member of the IISA

Work experience

Essential:

  • 12 years + experience in insurance & risk management

Advantageous:

  • International exposure will be advantageous.
  • Experience at a Short Term insurance firm or Short Term insurance broking firm will be advantageous

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Sound financial and accounting knowledge combined with commercial acumen
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office suit
