Barloworld employee Gideon Mouton embraces water saving initiatives
The heightened sense of the worth and importance of water and the issue of freshwater scarcity in South Africa is an opportune time to reconnect South Africans with the original source of their water – nature.
In partnership with WWF South Africa, Barloworld participated in the Journey of Water competition which ran from 22 March 2017 until 05 April 2017.
Barloworld employees who are permanent residents of South Africa had to submit a water-saving initiative which they have implemented in their homes. The ideas were then judged by a select panel of Barloworld executives according to the terms and conditions as guided by the WWF South Africa.
Entrants had to have demonstrate how they implemented the water-saving initiative in their homes and how it helped financially and environmentally.
Further to winning prizes at a Barloworld level, the winner will experience an all-expenses paid trip with WWF South Africa - the third Journey of Water which will take place in Mpumalanga and Northern KZN
Gideon Mouton who will be representing Barloworld with his initiative that rescued his garden by harvesting water from his show and kitchen sink. Gideon’s initiative was so successful that he manager to buy a 2500 litre Nel water tank to collect more water from his roof and feed to his garden.
Gideon describes his commitment to his water-saving initiative to being bitten by a bug due to him always thinking to new and creative ways of harvesting rain-water to help him sustain his initiative. It is Gideon’s wish to secure himself another Nel water tank and water pump
