Stinus Breedt, of the farm De Paarl near Hendrina in Mpumalanga, South Africa, is one such farmer. His partnership with Barloworld spans over a decade. Stinus, who began farming on his own in 1984, has grown his business from 450 ha of maize and 109 head of cattle to 2 200 ha of maize and a large commercial cattle stud. Since buying his first Massey Ferguson tractor in 1998, he has expanded his equipment into a comprehensive fleet of AGCO equipment. Barloworld speaks to Stinus about the difference equipment makes to his farming.

Stinus’s farm makes use of conventional cropping, a system in which soil tillage is the greatest energy consumer. This is also where, according to Stinus, Barloworld products have delivered the greatest efficiency. With narrow windows for soil preparation, planting, spraying and harvesting, his AGCO machinery helps ensure optimum productivity, uptime and peace of mind. “I use the Challenger tracked tractors for soil preparation and planting. They deliver in terms of both productivity and economy, providing more engine power on the ground, while protecting the soil from yield-sapping compaction. In dry years when soil compaction is serious, my yield has improved by more than 10%.”

In that time, in addition to scheduled maintenance, he only had to replace two fan belts and two batteries.
